Principal Hardware Engineer

Primary Job Function:
Design and develop electronic products for Quantum3D’s Embedded Visual Computing, Embedded High Performance Computing and Visual Simulation markets.
Candidate will be responsible for schematic and FPGA design work, depending on the project. The candidate involved as a project team member and/or a project leader, depending on the project. This work includes specification writing, component selection, design implementation, test specifications, BOM generation, hardware bringing, project maintenance, and project reviews.
Candidate is expected to be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously, balancing the workload between projects depending on schedule and urgency.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Project technical leadership
2. System Architectural Design and Specification
3. Mentoring of junior engineers
4. Have the ability to quickly learn new skills.
5. Product Proposals and Functional Specs.
6. Customer project technical point of contact
7. Work on high-speed digital designs plus some analogue.
8. Board level schematics.
9. FPGA Verilog, synthesis, place & route and test benches.
10. Interfacing to Operations (BOM, DFM, DFT, manufacturing release).
11. Requirement documents for subcontractors and subcontractor management.
12. Directly influential in the definition of future computing products.
13. Board bring up, test, and validation.

Additional Desirable Skills:
- Project technical leadership of engineering teams
- Signal Integrity
- PCB design and/or subcontract management
- Thermal and mechanical design issues
- Verilog HDL and CPLD/FPGA design, synthesis and place and route.
- PCI Express and other SERDES board and system level design 2.5Gb/s and greater
- Altera or Xilinx FPGA design experience
- Must have brought at least 4 boards from spec to bringup and product ship
- Understanding of video formats, GPUs, and issues associated with video transmission
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work well in the roles of a project team lead as well as contributor, depending on resource allocation.
Preferred Experience
- Military and high reliability design
- Mechanical and Thermal subcontracting
Training and Experience:
- Must have B.S. Degree in Computer/Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
At least eight years experience in high speed digital board level design and a sound understanding of the techniques involved.
