Senior Software Engineer (III/IV)

Primary Job Function:
Design and develop software systems for Quantum3D’s Embedded Visual Computing, Embedded High Performance Computing and Visual Simulation markets.

Candidate will be responsible for firmware, diagnostics, Operating System drivers, and application code. The candidate will be involved as a project team member and/or a project leader, depending on the project. This work includes specification writing, system design, implementation, test specifications, debugging, project maintenance, project reviews and assisting with hardware bring-up where needed.

Candidate is expected to be capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously and balancing the workload between projects depending on schedule and urgency. Candidate shall have the skills and willingness to lead projects from initial conception through final ship.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Develop Product Proposals and Functional Specifications
  2. Implement designs from specifications
  3. Perform software development for feature enhancements and ongoing maintenance (bug fixes)
  4. Perform embedded firmware development
  5. Port existing device drivers to custom hardware utilizing COTS ASICs across various Windows, Linux, and RTOS operating systems.
  6. Develop new device drivers for custom hardware include FPGAs across various Windows, Linux, and RTOS operating systems
  7. Develop application level software across various operating systems
  8. Develop installation scripts, make files and rpm packages
  9. Interface with hardware groups, other software groups, and product management
  10. Influence the definition of future computing products
  11. Have the ability to quickly learn new skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. 5-7 years experience with both Linux and Windows kernel and user space development including kernel debugging
  2. Strong understanding of Linux and Windows device driver development for high-speed devices such as video or networking
  3. Experience working with Windows XP Embedded, multiple Linux distributions, RTOS a plus.
  4. Embedded systems programming including building cross-compile environments
  5. Strong understanding of Operating Systems and computing architectures
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Ability to work well in the roles of a project team lead as well as individual contributor, depending on resource allocation
  8. Ability to develop project schedules, task assignment, and resource allocation plans
  9. Experience in full product lifecycle including having worked with shipping products
  10. A passion for working in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands simultaneously
  11. Attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines
  12. Highly developed planning and organizing skills. Able to anticipate change, adjust responses accordingly, and initiate steps to maximize resources toward a common objective.

Additional Desirable Skills:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of 3D Graphics, and video processing
  2. Knowledge and understanding of PC-based computing platform architectures
  3. Ability to debug hardware problems
  4. Hands-on experience working with FPGA designs include Xilinx and/or Altera tool chains
  5. MS in Computer Science

Training and Experience:

  1. B.S. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
  2. Previous experience working at the device driver level in both Linux and Windows
  3. At least five years experience in a software development role
  4. Excellent writing, editing and communication skills
