Quantum3D Sentiris PMC and Ventana PCI Leverage Quantum3D's Exclusive Relationship With NVIDIA to Bring Advanced COTS Graphics Subsystems to Avionics, Vetronics and Embedded Training Markets

San Jose, CA - February 19, 2002- Quantum3D®, Inc. today introduced two new embedded graphics subsystems based on NVIDIA® Corporation's (NASDAQ: NVDA) just announced Quadro4™ graphics technology. These new products are designed to meet the high performance, realtime 2D/3D graphics requirements of the rapidly growing embedded visual computing market, which includes both military and commercial vehicle "smart displays" and Embedded Training (ET) applications. The new Quantum3D products include Sentiris™ PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC), the first NVIDIA Quadro-based PMC, and Ventana® PCI, the first single-board, multi-channel, 2D/ 3D PCI graphics subsystem based on dual NVIDIA Quadro Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). Quantum3D will be demonstrating the new products at the AUSA Winter Symposium (Booth # 527) February 27-March 1, 2002, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Sentiris PCI Mezzanine Card (PMC)

Sentiris PMC and Ventana PCI reflect the latest efforts by Quantum3D and NVIDIA under the companies' FARSIGHT nV™ initiative-the exclusive agreement between Quantum3D and NVIDIA which enables Quantum3D to bring NVIDIA GPU technologies to the embedded visual computing market. FARSIGHT nV seeks to provide commercial and military aircraft, vehicles, vessels and transportable systems with NVIDIA Quadro-based graphics engines that provide realtime graphical, sensor, symbolic and imagery-based information for situational awareness and operational mission effectiveness.

"Our initial FARSIGHT nV-related projects were focused on custom form factor applications-like the F22 program with Kaiser Electronics," said Ross Q. Smith, co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing for Quantum3D. "With Sentiris PMC and Ventana PCI, we're now able to bring the power of NVIDIA Quadro4 GPU technology to the myriad applications that employ COTS form factors. For the first time ever, system integrators working with these important form factors can benefit from NVIDIA graphics technology-now packaged appropriately for hostile environment deployment, and with the essential features that are required for avionics, vetronics and embedded training applications."

"Quantum3D continues to provide visual computing industry leadership by developing innovative, value-added products based on the latest NVIDIA graphics technologies," said Dan Vivoli, vice president of marketing at NVIDIA. "Our collaborative efforts with Quantum3D are really getting traction with Sentiris and Ventana, since they are targeted at enhancing the capabilities of the most popular forms of embedded visual computing systems. We look forward to continuing our efforts with Quantum3D to meet the needs of the this important, rapidly growing market segment."

Sentiris PMC on VMIC™ Single Board Computer

Sentiris PMC
Quantum3D's Sentiris is the first PMC that brings the power of NVIDIA GPU technology to COTS embedded visual computing applications. Based on NVIDIA's new Quadro4 GPU, Sentiris delivers higher performance and better image quality than any PMC available in the market today-with anti-aliased line and full scene anti-aliased texture map performance that far surpasses PMCs based on competitive graphics chipsets. Sentiris supports NVIDIA's unique nView™ architecture, which provides dual, independent outputs-with both digital (LVDS/DVI) and analog outputs at up to 2048 x 1536 resolution with 32-bit color and Z-buffering. For sensor, camera and other advanced video functions, Sentiris also includes advanced video-in and video-out functionality, with support for color space conversion, scaling and overlays for NTSC, PAL, S-Video and RS-170A formats.

Designed for open architecture applications, Sentiris supports OpenGL® 1.3 under both Intel® IA32™ and PowerPC® architecture systems under Microsoft® Windows® (IA32 only), Linux and popular real time operating system (RTOS) environments. Sentiris is compliant with IEEE P1381.1 and is compatible with VME, CompactPCI, PC-104+, and other single board computers equipped with IEEE P1381.1 compliant PMC connectors. Sentiris takes advantage of the Quadro4's PowerMizer™ technology to deliver unsurpassed graphics performance with power consumption and thermal dissipation well under 10 Watts-a power and thermal envelope previously limited to simple frame buffer and entry level graphics technologies. Sentiris is available in both convective- and conduction-cooled models (per VITA 20-199x). Sentiris is also designed to meet the rigorous shock and vibration requirements of Mil-Std-810E and EMI/EMC requirements of Mil-Std-461D, which makes it perfect for the hostile environments found in deployed ground vehicle, marine, avionics and man-portable applications.

Sentiris' underlying Quadro4 graphics technology is the most powerful embedded graphics processor ever developed. Equipped with a 128-bit wide interface to 64MB of high-performance frame buffer/texture memory, Sentiris is capable of delivering over 2.6 Million anti-aliased lines per second, over 3.4 Million triangles per second and over 400 trilinear filtered Megapixels/sec, which surpasses competitive PMCs based on 3DLabs® Permedia3™ technology by over 500%.

International pricing for single unit quantities of the convection-cooled Sentiris model begins at $4,999. Volume discounts for OEMs and systems integrators are available. Production quantities are expected to begin shipments in Q2 2002. Sentiris reference and development systems, based on Intel Pentium® III and PowerPC architecture systems for both Windows and RTOS environments will also be available in a similar timeframe. More information on both Sentiris and the Sentiris reference systems may be found at www.quantum3d.com.

Initial customers for Sentiris include Boeing Phantom Works, which is using Sentiris in advanced avionics research and development programs, and United Defense, Ground Systems Division, which is using Sentiris for the prototype A3 embedded training technology demonstrator. United Defense is also evaluating the card for use on the Crusader, the Army's most advanced self-propelled howitzer. Sentiris has also been selected by Reality by Design for a man-portable embedded training application related to the U.S. Army's Land Warrior Program.

Ventana PCI
Ventana is Quantum3D's first NVIDIA GPU-based single-board, multi-channel graphics subsystem for Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and ET applications. Ventana PCI is designed for Windows-based applications where high-performance multiple-channel 2D/3D graphics and/or video output from PICMG and PCI-based systems is essential. To provide high performance within this environment, Ventana employs dual Quadro4 GPUs in a unique PCI bridge-chip architecture that can drive up to four channels of RGB (analog or DVI digital) output from a single 66 MHz or 33 MHz PCI bus slot. Ventana PCI features 64MB per GPU for a total memory footprint of 128MB per graphics subsystem.

Ventana PCI will be available in two models: a basic model with 32MB per GPU with 33 MHz PCI operation, and an advanced model that features 66 MHz PCI support with 64MB of graphics memory per GPU and support for nVSync™. Quantum3D's patent-pending technology that provides precision synchronization of multiple NVIDIA Quadro4-based graphics subsystems for multiple-channel, wide field-of-view realtime training applications.

Beginning in Q2 of 2002, Ventana PCI models will be generally available as components of Quantum3D's Graphite™, Obsidian® nV and AAlchemy™ PC-based image generators (PC-IGs) where they may be used to provide a low-cost, high-performance multi-channel capability that complements the existing primary graphics subsystems within the PC-IG. Specialized versions of Ventana PCI with unique features sets may also be available for OEM and systems integrators with volume applications and set system configurations. For information on Ventana PCI pricing when packaged as part of a Quantum3D PC-IG, or as a volume component for OEM applications, please contact Quantum3D.
