SAN JOSE, CALIF. - April 2, 2002
- Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider of open architecture
realtime visual computing solutions for the visual simulation
and training (VST) and embedded visual computing (EVC) markets,
today announced that the company has closed a $20 million round
of venture funding. Berg & Berg Investments led this latest
round, with investors Techfarm Ventures, Charter Ventures, TechFund
Capital and J.P. Morgan/Chase Capital also participating.
"Over the past several years, Quantum3D
has established itself as a leader in both the vis-sim and embedded
graphics markets by developing and shipping state-of-the-art
products that meet mission critical military and commercial
visual computing market needs," said Jeff Edson, Quantum3D
president and CEO. "Raising venture funds in today's financial
climate is a clear validation of the company's direction and
solid marketplace achievements, and sends a strong message of
viability and capability to our customers, our partners and
our competitors."
The additional funding will support ongoing
operations, and will further Quantum3D's efforts to advance
the capabilities of the company's widely adopted realtime image
generation products for synthetic environment training, as well
as NVIDIA®-based embedded graphics subsystems for embedded
training solutions and realtime graphical display systems for
avionics, vehicle electronics and man-portable applications.
Today, the company includes among its customers such industry
leaders as Boeing Corporation, Smiths/Fairchild, Honeywell,
Kaiser Electronics/Rockwell Collins, Lockheed Martin, Honda,
Mitsubishi Precision, Indra, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, SAIC
and Thales Training and Simulation. Last year in support of
Quantum3D's success in the EVC marketplace, the company reached
a worldwide exclusive agreement with NVIDIA Corporation to bring
NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GPU) technologies to the embedded
visual computing market under a joint program called FARSIGHT
nV.
Gordon A. Campbell, executive director, Techfarm
Ventures, said, "Quantum3D has one of the strongest management
and technical teams in realtime visual computing today, as its
success in the training and embedded markets indicates. With
its exclusive relationship with NVIDIA, and its strong technical
capabilities, Quantum3D is uniquely positioned to capitalize
on the trend in military and commercial markets in applying
advanced, realtime embedded graphics to gain an information
advantage. At the same time, the demand for increasingly high-performance,
yet value oriented training and simulation solutions - both
institutional and embedded - continues, which also benefits
Quantum3D. With this additional funding, Quantum3D will be able
to further distance itself from the competition in both of these
important markets."
"Quantum3D's strategy of providing a set of rich, value-added
features to industry-leading standard components has been extremely
well received by premier military and commercial customers,"
said Ravi Chiruvolu, General Partner, Charter Ventures. "We
believe that Quantum3D has just scratched
the surface of the immense market opportunity for real-time
visualization, simulation and graphics solutions and the company
is poised for tremendous growth."
