LILLE, FRANCE - April 9, 2002
- Quantum3D®, Inc., a
leading provider of open architecture, realtime visual computing
solutions for the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded
Visual Computing (EVC) markets, today announced the availability
of new "QX" models of both AAlchemy and Obsidian®,
the Company's widely acclaimed advanced and midrange open architecture
image generators. Quantum3D also announced the availability
of its latest NVIDIA® Quadro4 based graphics subsystem
for the Obsidian QX-- the Ventana® AGP 4120, which also
features Quantum3D's patent pending nVSync technology
for precision multi-channel synchronization. The new models,
which are on display at ITEC in Quantum3D's booth (# 740) and
select partner booths, are used to demonstrate the latest realtime
synthetic environment realtime software from CG2, Lockheed Martin,
Multi-Gen Paradigm, Terrain Experts, Inc., Thales Simulation
and Training and Quantum3D.
"These new models reflect Quantum3D's
ongoing efforts to provide the highest levels of scalable system
performance, image quality and essential visual simulation features
required to support the increasingly sophisticated needs of
precision VST and EVC applications," said Ross Q. Smith,
co-founder and vice president of sales and marketing, Quantum3D.
"Quantum3D continues to leverage its close relationships
with Intel®, ServerWorks® and NVIDIA® to bring the
latest advances in processor, systems and graphics technology
to our reseller and integrator customers who continually seek
improvements in performance and value, while maintaining software
compatibility and providing solid life cycle support for our
existing products."

Obsidian QX
|
AAlchemy QX
The AAlchemy QX is equipped with a new server-class motherboard
that supports dual Intel® Xeon Pentium®-IV processors
and dual-bank DDR memory to provide the highest system level
performance available in the industry. AAlchemy QX models are
available with the complete range of AAlchemy graphics subsystems
and options, which continue to provide the highest performance
and best image quality of any PC-based image generator in the
market today. Quantum3D and partner benchmarks on the new QX
models indicate a typical 15 to 20% improvement in application
performance over the AAlchemy SX models that are based on Intel
Pentium-III processors and which, until the announcement of
the new AAlchemy QX models, represented the highest performance
PC-based Image Generators in the market to date.
AAlchemy QX 8264SB, 8264DB and 8264DC models, available
with nVSensor and QSync options, will begin volume
shipments in early summer 2002. The international list price
for the AAlchemy QX 8464DB, which includes an OpenGVS
runtime license and delivers up to 880 Megapixels and 1.7 Million
Independent Triangles per second, with four sub-pixel sample
rotated-grid anti-aliasing and trilinear filtering enabled and
resolutions up to 1600 x 1200 begins at $37,999 USD. Pricing
for other AAlchemy models and options such as nVSensor
NVG/IR sensor post processor and QSync external source
synchronization is available from Quantum3D.

Obsidian QX
The Obsidian QX is a new 4U system from Quantum3D that also
features the new server-class motherboard equipped with dual
Intel Xeon Pentium-IV processors and dual-bank DDR memory for
improved application performance. The Obsidian QX will also
feature Quantum3D's new Ventana AGP 4120 Graphics Subsystem,
which combines Quantum3D's patent-pending nVSync precision
multi-channel synchronization technology with NVIDIA's latest
Quadro4 technology and 128MB frame buffer to provide a new standard
for performance in a mid-range PC-based image generator. Based
on Real World Benchmark performance, the new Obsidian®
QX delivers over 150 Megapixels per second and up to 2.5M triangles
per second, with four sub-pixel sample aligned-grid anti-aliasing
enabled. The new Ventana AGP 4120 employs NVIDIA®'s Unified
Driver Architecture to provide defacto standard compatibility
for OpenGL® 1.2 (or earlier) and DirectX 8.0 applications
under Microsoft® Windows®2000. With its underlying Quadro4
based graphics engine, the Ventana AGP 4120 provides industry
leading support and performance for applications that employ
pixel and vertex shaders, anisotropic filtering, p-buffer support
for distortion correction and soft edge blending and NVIDIA®
nView-based dual output support with resolutions up to
2048 x 1536. Volume shipments of the Obsidian QX will begin
in early summer 2002. The international list price for the Obsidian
QX 4200 Series, with dual Xeon processors, Ventana AGP 4120
graphics subsystem and OpenGVS runtime license starts at $11,499.
Pricing for other Obsidian QX models and options including the
nVSensor NVG/IR sensor post processor is available from
Quantum3D.

Ventana PCI 4210
Both the AAlchemy QX and Obsidian QX models are also available
with Quantum3D's new Ventana PCI 4210 graphics subsystem. Announced
at AUSA Winter last month, the Ventana PCI 4210 employs dual
NVIDIA Quadro4 chips, each with 64MB of DDR memory and NVIDIA's
nView technology, in a unique 66 MHz PCI bridge chip architecture
that provides up to four "auxiliary" realtime 3D channels
that compliment the main out-the-window or nVSensor view
available provided by the main AAlchemy or Obsidian graphics
subsystem. A typical application that would benefit from this
unique combination is a driving simulator in which AAlchemy
graphics are employed for the primary out-the-window view and
the Ventana PCI 4210 is to provide the three mirror channels
and an on-board navigation system view. A five-channel system
such as this would previously have required a total of five
PC-based image generators. With the Ventana® PCI 4210, coupled
with the power of the AAlchemy QX or Obsidian® QX
systems reduces the count to one PC-based image generator, with
obvious benefits in terms of in cost, power and weight savings,
along with improved reliability, MTBF and MTTR. Available as
a factory installed option for both AAlchemy QX and Obsidian
QX models, the international MSRP for the Ventana PCI 4210 is
$4,999 USD.
