SAN JOSE AND MONTEREY, CA . - August
28, 2002 - Quantum3D®, Inc., and Advanced Interactive
Systems (AIS) Military/Government Division (previously known
as Reality by Design, Inc.) today announced that they have successfully
implemented the embedded configuration of the Virtual Individual
Combatant Trainer for Embedded Rehearsal (VICTER) program. The
embedded training solution was developed by AIS under contract
from STRICOM for the U.S. Army. Based on the Quicksilver®
AT Realtime Visual Computing System developed by Quantum3D,
VICTER features the Quantum3D Sentiris PCI Mezzanine Card
(PMC), the most advanced embedded graphics subsystem available
today.
"VICTER directly supports the Army's
Land Warrior program requirements for embedded training, "
stated Paul Dumanoir, STRICOM project manager for the VICTER
project. "STRICOM selected AIS and Quantum3D based on their
proven track record for delivering quality products. The Quicksilver
AT and AIS SVS combination provides a solid foundation
for future soldier embedded training and simulation applications.
VICTER is also a key component in the ongoing STRICOM Embedded
Training for Dismounted (ETDS) science and technology program."
The U.S. Land Warrior program is designed
to equip the modern ground
soldier with the most advanced gear and improved equipment for
communications, surveillance and friend-or-foe identification
capabilities, along with biological threat detection. AIS developed
the embedded virtual training system to enable the solider to
perform critical mission rehearsal while en route to a tactical
objective and to increase readiness while deployed. The virtual
training system based on the AIS SVS system also assists the
soldier in fully understanding the advantage afforded him by
the advanced situational awareness provided by the Land Warrior
system. With the AIS system, soldiers will be trained to react
quickly and precisely to the information presented by the Land
Warrior system.

Quicksilver AT with Sentiris
|
Advanced Interactive Systems selected the
Sentiris-equipped Quicksilver AT because it provided the small
form factor, high-performance, advanced image quality and low-power
consumption required by the Land Warrior Program for embedded
training. Based on the NVIDIA® Quadro4® embedded Graphics
Processing Unit (GPU), Sentiris is the industry's first commercial
off-the-shelf (COTS) embedded graphics subsystem that is based
on NVIDIA technology.
"This program is another great example
of successful collaboration between AIS and Quantum3D,"
said Paul Barham, director of R&D, Advanced Interactive
Systems. "We have met the U.S. Army's requirements to provide
a high performance 3D embedded solution that is appropriate
in size and weight for a man-deployed solution. That is a critical
factor in the program's success. Furthermore, Quantum3D's Sentiris
PMC with NVIDIA's Quardro4 technology provides us with roadmap
to continue to enhance the systems display capabilities as new
technology becomes available."
"The Land Warrior ET System has been
an exciting project for all of us at Quantum3D," said Ross
Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and executive vice president
of business development and marketing. "Our success on
this forward looking army program has validated the performance,
image quality and efficiency goals that we established for Sentiris
and Quicksilver AT. We look forward to our continued partnership
with AIS on this and future embedded training programs as our
military continues to pioneer crucial areas of embedded visual
computing and synthetic environment training."
Sentiris PMC
Quantum3D's Sentiris is the first PMC that brings the power
of NVIDIA GPU technology to COTS embedded visual computing applications.
Based on NVIDIA's Quadro4 Embedded GPU, Sentiris delivers higher
performance and better image quality than any PMC available
in themarket today-with line, point and polygon primitive and
full scene anti-aliasing and texture mapping performance that
surpasses other PMCs based on competitive graphics chipsets.
Sentiris supports NVIDIA's unique nView architecture,
which provides dual, independent outputs-with both digital (LVDS/DVI)
and analog outputs at up to 2048 x 1536 resolution with 32-bit
color and Z-buffering.For sensor, camera and other advanced
video I/O functions, Sentiris also includes advanced video-in
and video-out capabilities, with intrinsic support for color
space conversion, scaling and overlays, for popular video formats
including NTSC, PAL, S-Video and RS-170A.

Quantum3D® Sentiris
4110 CV PMC
|
Designed for open architecture applications,
Sentiris supports both Intel® IA32 and PowerPC®
architecture systems under Microsoft® Windows® (IA32
only), Linux and popular real time operating system (RTOS) environments.
Sentiris is compliant with IEEE P1381.1 and is compatible with
VME, CompactPCI and virtually all other single board computers
equipped with IEEE P1381.1 compliant PMC connectors. Sentiris
takes advantage of the Quadro4's PowerMizer technology
to deliver unsurpassed graphics performance with power consumption
and thermal dissipation that is typically less than 10 Watts-a
power and thermal envelope previously limited to simple frame
buffer technologies. Convectively cooled models of Sentiris
are available from Quantum3D and its distributors. Conductively
cooled Sentiris models (per VITA 20-199x) are available
via SBS Technologies (www.sbs.com).
Sentiris is also designed to meet the rigorous shock and vibration
requirements of Mil-Std-810E and EMI/EMC requirements of Mil-Std-461D,
which makes it perfect for the hostile environments found in
deployed ground vehicle, marine, avionics and man-portable applications.
Sentiris' underlying Quadro4 graphics technology
is the most powerful embedded graphics processor ever developed.
Equipped with a 128-bit wide interface to 64MB of high-performance
frame buffer/texture memory, the Quadro4 is capable of delivering
up to 2.8 million anti-aliased lines per second, and up to 358
trilinear Megapixels/sec, which surpasses its nearest competitor
by a factor of up to 10x.
