ORLANDO, FL - December
2, 2002 - Quantum3D®, Inc. a leading provider of open
architecture realtime visual computing solutions and products,
today announced the availability of three new plug-ins for Mantis,
Quantum3D's advanced realtime image generation software Image
generator, providing additional functionality and third party
support. These new Mantis plug-ins complement Mantis' intrinsic
capabilities and existing set of plug-ins and include realtime
Marine Effects, support for Boston Dynamics' DI-Guy dynamic
human simulation tool, and Channel Masking. At I/ITSEC 2002, Quantum3D
will be demonstrating the new Mantis plug-ins on Quantum3D's range
of Image Generation (IG) Solutions including Independence
(Quantum3D's new 4th Generation advanced IG) and AAgility
(Quantum3D's new flexible, midrange IG) at the Quantum3D Booths
(No. 1220, 1212 and 852) on December 2-5, 2002 in Orlando, FL.
The Mantis Marine Effects plug-in expands Mantis'
Image generation capabilities allowing it to fulfill requirements
for naval simulation and training. Offering features such as dynamic
sea states with programmable amplitude, direction, and frequency
of waves, combined with rotor wash, and bow and stern wake effects,
the Marine Effects plug-in allows Mantis application developers
to incorporate high fidelity maritime effects into naval and naval
aviation applications. One of the first applications to employ
Mantis Marine Effects is the U.S. Army's CH-47 Transportable Flight
Proficiency Simulator (TPFS), which is being integrated by J.
F. Taylor, Inc. under contract to the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center
Aircraft Division, Manned Flight Simulator Facility at NAS Patuxent
River, MD.
The Mantis DI-Guy plug-in resulted from close
collaboration between Boston Dynamics and Quantum3D. The DI-Guy
plug-in offers support for a range of lifelike human characterizations
and animations, including bending, crawling, running, and walking.
The DI-Guy plug-in enables Mantis developers to easily add realistic
human simulation capabilities to their applications to support
military operations in urban terrain (MOUT), small unit operations
and other "soldier-intensive" operations. At I/ITSEC
2002, the DI-Guy Flight Deck Crewman (FDC) will be demonstrated
in the featured Image Generation Solution simulation.
"The DI-Guy plug-in for Mantis provides
Quantum3D customers with an easy to use, yet extremely powerful
means for adding soldiers and civilians to an otherwise very complete,
scalable solution set that ranges from entry level to mission
rehearsal," said Marc Raibert, President of Boston Dynamics.
"We are excited to see DI-Guy work so well with Mantis on
systems like Independence and AAgility. Our collective customers
will benefit from the combination of exceptional performance and
seamless support."
The Mantis Channel Masking Plug-in may be used
to selectively mask out portions of an image to fit the desired
geometry of a particular application and to accommodate specialized
monitors, projectors or Head Mounted Displays (HMDs). Using channel
masking in immersive simulation training environments provides
true representations of what drivers, gunners, or pilots actually
see using real world devices and out-the-window views.
All three new plug-ins are available immediately. For more details,
including pricing, please contact your Quantum3D sales rep or

About Mantis
As an open architecture software IG, Mantis provides flexible,
cross-platform image generation capabilities that provides the
most effective utilization of modern graphics hardware, producing
exceptional image quality and sustained high frame rate performance.
Mantis comes equipped with a suite of standard features that support
communication functions, peripheral devices, displays, and multi-channel
synchronization, with intrinsic support for Quantum3D SwapLock,
nVSync and QSync precision synchronization technologies.
Mantis offers a powerful, efficient and flexible development environment
via plug-in technology that enables third parties and system integrators
to develop extensions to Mantis' core capabilities via the optional
Mantis SDK. In addition, Quantum3D offers a rich and growing set
of plug-ins including CIGI and DIS host interfaces and the viXsen
realtime dynamic sensor simulation plug-in that provide a range
of specific capabilities that lets training system providers tailor
their IGs to meet the needs of specific programs. The Mantis architecture
supports traditional advanced IG features including active load
management for sustained frame rate, special effects, high fidelity
sensors, weather, and lighting, along with mission functions such
as height-above-terrain and line-of-sight intersection testing.
Features such as multi-channel data and frame synchronization
and dynamically paged terrain are also standard capabilities of
Mantis.
