Thermite
Tactical Visual Computer
|
Washington,
DC - October 6, 2003 - Quantum3D®, Inc., and ViA, Inc.,
at the Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting today
announced Thermite -- a new man-wearable tactical visual
computing system that is designed to enable soldiers, police,
firefighters and other commercial and government professionals
to conduct Embedded Training, Mission Rehearsal and Command, Control,
Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
(C4ISR) applications. Jointly developed by Quantum3D and ViA,
Thermite is a key component of a recently announced Embedded Training
System (ETS) R&D contract awarded to Quantum3D by the U.S.
Army Research, Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) in
support of ongoing Science & Technology Objective (STO) program
focused on Dismounted Embedded Training, Mission Planning and
Rehearsal.
"By combining Quantum3D's expertise in embedded graphics
and video technologies with ViA's expertise in man-wearable systems
and voice recognition, we've created a revolutionary new multi-role
system that enables the deployment of graphics-intensive embedded
training, mission planning and rehearsal and C4ISR applications
for individual soldiers and military personnel," said Ross
Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and executive vice president of
business development and marketing. "With this new capability,
military and public safety organizations can, for the first time,
provide individual personnel with the enhanced situational awareness,
training and information advantages that will greatly improve
their ability to conduct their missions safely and efficiently."
Quantum3D will be demonstrating the new Thermite
tactical visual computer and other Quantum3D embedded and institutional
training products at AUSA in the Quantum3D Booth, # 5621.
"All of us at ViA are excited about our
collaboration with Quantum3D on the Thermite project," said
Joe Price, chief operating officer at ViA. "With Thermite's
unparalleled graphics and video capabilities, coupled with its
extreme ruggedization, powerful compute engine, comprehensive
I/O and sophisticated power management, we have, for the first
time, a platform that combines the intuitive power of visual computing
with the versatility of man-wearable systems. We anticipate that
Thermite's impact on the deployed computing market will be very
significant."
About Thermite
Quantum3D Thermite is the first man-wearable, battery-operated,
multi-role, realtime visual COTS system for deployed tactical
visual computing applications. Designed for dismounted infantry
programs and similar operations that require a compact footprint,
long battery life, high performance, sophisticated wireless I/O,
voice recognition and realtime 2D/3D visual computing capabilities,
Thermite is ideal for battlefield visualization, embedded training,
and mission planning and rehearsal applications.
Thermite supports Microsoft® Windows2000®
and WindowsXP® and Linux operating systems for application
compatibility possible and with its 1 GHz Transmeta® Crusoe®
5800 CPU and a modular, embedded graphics subsystem based on the
NVIDIA GeForceFX Go GPU, Thermite delivers the highest performance
of any man-wearable computer available on the market today.
With support for NVIDIA nView technology,
Thermite provides dual, independent high-resolution analog or
digital outputs, with 32-bit color and Z-buffering. Thermite also
supports output in popular composite and component video display
formats including NTSC, PAL, S-Video and RS-170A formats. For
applications that require sensor or camera video inputs, Thermite
features direct video-capture capabilities, with support for color
space conversion, scaling, and overlays for popular composite
and component video input formats.
Thermite provides a comprehensive set of wired
and wireless connectivity capabilities, including USB 2.0, Ethernet
10/100 and 802.11x, Bluetooth, serial RS-232 and PS2, as well
as PCMCIA-based I/O options. For applications that require voice
input, Thermite is available with a range of ViA voice recognition
applications. Packaged in a super-rugged alloy enclosure with
hermetic seals and LEMO F series connectors, Thermite is available
with either ruggedized disk drives or solid state drives and is
designed to operate in the severe environments encountered by
infantry, special operations, armored vehicle, naval vessel and
aircrew personnel. Thermite features advanced power management
technologies including NVIDIA PowerMizer and unique hot-swap
battery capabilities, which together provide Thermite with extended
operating times on standard issue U.S. Army Soldier Systems or
commercial lithium ion batteries.
Pricing and Availability
Available from Quantum3D in both industrial and full mil-spec
ruggedization levels, production shipments of Thermite will begin
later in Q4, 2003 with single unit pricing that starts at $9,999.
Quantum3D also intends to offer embedded training and battlefield
visualization bundles that package Thermite Quantum3D and popular
third party software products beginning in Q1, 2004. For more
