ORLANDO,
FLA. - Dec. 1, 2003 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider
of open architecture, realtime 3D visual computing solutions for
the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded Visual Computing
(EVC) markets, announced today at the Inter-service/Industry Training,
Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) that General Dynamics
C4 Systems, an operating unit of General Dynamics Corporation
(NYSE: GD) and Quantum3D have entered into a purchase agreement
for over 1,000 Quantum3D Ventana® PCI Commercial-Off-The-Shelf
(COTS) Embedded Graphics Subsystems (EGS). General Dynamics will
use the graphics subsystem in its Embedded Training Module (ETM)
for the new U.S. Army Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle (ICV).
In February of 2002, Quantum3D announced that
the Ventana PCI, which features dual NVIDIA Quadro® Graphics
Processing Units (GPUS) and supports RGB Analog, DVI or RS-170/NTSC
displays, had been selected by General Dynamics for the Stryker
ETM. Today's announcement represents the first production contract
from General Dynamics for large quantities of the Ventana PCI
for volume deployment in the ETMs. The Ventana PCI provides OpenGL®
and DirectX® -based realtime 3D graphics capabilities that
enable the ETM to support high-fidelity synthetic environment
training with up to four outputs to in-vehicle displays. With
the Stryker ICV ETM, U.S. Army Transformation Forces will, for
the first time, be able to conduct high-fidelity precision gunnery
and unit-level tactical training exercises while in a deployed
environment. Previously, synthetic environment training at this
level of fidelity would have required the use of institutional
or appended trainers, which require the vehicle crews to rotate
back from deployment for training or the attachment of institutional
image generators in the field, neither of which are optimal from
a logistics.
The
Ventana PCI, along with other Quantum3D products and solutions
for embedded and institutional visual simulation and training
applications, will be on display in Quantum3D's booth (No. 1350)
at I/ITSEC in Orlando, Florida, Dec. 1-4.
"This contract is significant not only
because of the number of units involved but also because it validates
the important role Quantum3D has in fulfilling the promise of
embedded training," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder
and executive vice president of business development and marketing.
"Almost two years ago, when we introduced our new embedded
graphics subsystems, Ventana and Sentiris, the industry
was merely talking about embedded training. Today, pioneers like
the U.S. Army and General Dynamics are deploying it. All of us
Quantum3D are proud to see our products and technologies enabling
this new frontier for visual computing."
About Ventana
The Ventana PCI multi-channel graphics subsystem employs dual
NVIDIA Quadro®4 GPUs (Graphic Processing Units), each with
64MB of DDR memory, in a unique PCI bridge-chip architecture coupled
with NVIDIA nView technology that enables the subsystem
to drive up to four channels of RGB, DVI Digital or RS-170/NTSC/PAL
output from a single PCI 66 MHz bus slot. Designed for Windows-based
OpenGL® and DirectX® applications where high-performance,
multiple-channel 2D/3D graphics and/or video output from PICMG
and PCI-based systems is essential, Ventana PCI is ideally suited
for embedded training and institutional training applications-especially
for those applications where in-vehicle or simulator legacy display
support is required.
