SAN JOSE,
CA - December, 16, 2003 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading
provider of open architecture, realtime 3D visual computing solutions
for the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded Visual
Computing (EVC) markets, announced today that Ross Q. Smith has
been promoted to president of the company. Smith, a Quantum3D
co-founder most recently served as the company's executive vice
president of business development and marketing. Smith replaces
Edward McConaghay, who has resigned to pursue other interests.
"Every company owes its success to individuals
who have a vision and a passion to see that vision realized,"
said Gordon Campbell, Chairman of the Board for Quantum3D. "Ross
is one of those individuals. As a founder of the company and a
member of its Board, he has contributed the technical guidance,
market understanding and dedication to transition Quantum3D from
a developer of point-product visual computing systems to an industry
leader in open-architecture, realtime, visual computing solutions."
As president of Quantum3D, Smith will focus
the company's resources on expanding market share for its image
generator and embedded visual computing solutions and services,
as well as developing the infrastructure required to support Quantum3D's
commercial and military customers on a global basis. Quantum3D's
customers include the U.S. and allied governments, along with
leading training system, avionics and vetronics prime contractors
and system integrators, such as Adacel, Boeing, General Dynamics,
Honda, Honeywell, Ford Motor, L-3 Communications, Lockheed Martin,
Saab, SAIC, SBS Technologies, J. F. Taylor, and Thales, to name
a few.
"The past seven years since we started
Quantum3D has made for a very exciting journey," said Smith.
"We pioneered and drove the adoption of COTS technology for
image generator solutions for the visual simulation and training
market and also brought PC graphics to the embedded visual computing
market - both of which have enabled entirely new categories of
synthetic environment training and embedded computing applications.
But the journey is far from over and there are new opportunities
- and challenges - as we continue to expand our global presence.
I am very excited to take on the position of company president
at this time in the company's evolution."
Recent wins for Quantum3D's IG Solutions include
the F-35 JSF ACS and F/A 22 Raptor ACS (Lockheed Martin), T-38
ATD and USAF F-15E Mission Training Centers (Boeing), U.S. National
Advanced Driving Simulator and NAVAIR TH-57C Flight Instrument
Trainer (NLX). Recent wins for Quantum3D's Embedded Visual Computing
Solutions include a production award from General Dynamics for
the U.S. Army Stryker ICV Embedded Training Graphics Subsystems
and U.S. Army RDECOM Dismounted Soldier Embedded Training Research.
Prior to joining Quantum3D, Smith was a co-founder
and vice president of sales, marketing and business development
for 3dfx. Smith has also served in executive level capacities
in business development, OEM sales and marketing at Media Vision,
Pellucid, MIPS Computer Systems, Silicon Graphics, Tracor and
Ford Motor Company. Smith received a BSEE degree from the University
of Texas at Austin in 1983.
