Example Quantum3D Facets Models for RNLA
|
LONDON
- April 20, 2004 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider
of open architecture, realtime 3D visual computing solutions for
the Visual Simulation and Training (VST) and Embedded Visual Computing
(EVC) markets, today announced at ITEC that it has successfully
delivered a comprehensive set of Quantum3D Facets realtime
3D models to the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) in support of the
RNLA's efforts to standardize models used in Netherlands visual
simulation and training applications. The RNLA contracted Quantum3D
to develop over 200 realtime models representing a wide range
of ground vehicles and aircraft for use in virtual training applications.
Models included within the provided library include ground support
and combat vehicles, such as the Dutch Leopard 2A5/2A6, and both
fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft.
The RNLA is initially deploying the Facets models
in a forward air controller training program. The next scheduled
deployment will be for the RNLA TACTIS training program. Optimized
for realtime applications, Facets models include multiple texture
schemes, multiple levels of detail, multiple damaged states and
vehicle markings, along with specific material encoding for sensor
simulation applications - all of which are key requirements for
RNLA simulation and training programs.
"Creating cost-effective detailed, yet
optimized realtime models for simulation and training is a combination
of art and science," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder
and president. "Our Facets models have a strong heritage
as the industry leading COTS realtime model solution for visual
simulation, and we continue to invest in Facets development as
part of our Synthetic Environment Center of Excellence in Orlando
headed by Tim Romain. All of us at Quantum3D are pleased to be
working with the RNLA on this important countrywide effort that
we believe could set the standard for network centric training
in the coming years."
Under the agreement, the RNLA set standards
for the internal structure of its models and Quantum3D created
the Facets models to conform to these specifications. By standardizing
its models and with its unique countrywide license agreement,
the RNLA is able to provide authorized prime contractors, subcontractors
and end users within the Netherlands with highly optimized Government
furnished models for each new training program, which enables
the RNLA to provide consistency in visual quality, target recognition
and detection of its models across all applications.
About Facets
Quantum3D Facets are Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) realtime
3D models that are designed for ready integration into multi-spectral
visualization and simulation applications. Delivered in OpenFlight®
and VTree® formats, Facets 3D realtime models are tuned for
30 and 60 Hz applications and feature high-quality, multiple resolution
photo realistic textures with multiple paint schemes, optional
material encoded IR textures, multiple levels of detail (LOD)
and articulations where applicable. Facets models, along with
other Quantum3D synthetic environment development products and
tools, IGs and realtime visual computing solutions are on display
at ITEC at the Quantum3D Booth (No. 418) as well as SEOS (No.
218) and Barco (No. 404) partner booths.
