SAN JOSE,
CA - July 20, 2004 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider
of open architecture, realtime 3D visual computing solutions for
Visual and Sensor Simulation Training (VSST) and Embedded Visual
Computing (EVC) markets, announced today that Honeywell has selected
the Quantum3D IData Human Machine Interface (HMI) development
suite of tools to develop the avionics displays for its APEX®
integrated cockpit systems. IData will be deployed on several
light aircraft including the Extra EA-500 and the Grob G160 Ranger
that will have APEX as standard equipment and will be certified
to DO-178B/ED-12B Level A. An IData generated display is expected
to make first flight on Honeywell's flight test demonstrator later
this year.
Quantum3D IData, with its patent-pending Dynamic
Bytecode database technology, allows avionics developers
to rapidly and cost-effectively create and deploy sophisticated
Electronic Flight Instrument Screens (EFIS) directly into certified
embedded airborne systems. IData features an intuitive user interface
with the intrinsic ability to animate the display database using
the same runtime software used to deploy it, allowing rapid display
development, advanced debugging capabilities, and powerful simulation-based
design and testing. Other IData features include an intrinsic
native windowing capability for cursor-controlled applications,
advanced moving map support, built-in standards-based network
interfaces, TrueType font support and support for advanced OpenGL
features not found in competing COTS or proprietary HMI tools.
IData also enables avionics developers to reuse display definitions
from existing tools through the use of IData's open XML-based
model import/export capability, meaning customers can leverage
existing investments in display design.
APEX is an integrated avionics system that displays
essential flight information using "real world" graphics
presented on high-resolution flat-panel displays. APEX features
an intuitive Visual Cueing and Control (VC2) display presentation
including conformal symbology intended to bring the intuitive
nature of Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight to any flight condition.
APEX is based on an advanced integrated avionics platform including
Flight Management System (FMS) navigation system, digital Automated
Flight Control System (AFCS), high-speed Time-Triggered Protocol
(TTP) databus, and Air Data Attitude Heading Reference System
(ADAHRS) sensor system. Future development plans for APEX displays
include using IData for advanced moving maps with graphical cursor-controlled
interfaces, synthetic vision in the primary flight display and
integrated hazard displays.
"All of us at Quantum3D are pleased to
be working with Honeywell on bringing the benefits of IData's
data driven architecture to the certified avionics market,"
said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and president. "We
look forward to continuing to advance IData for additional applications
in the certified avionics and embedded display industry, in general."
