Quantum3D Expedition Embedded Training Development and Deployment Platform Running America's Army
|
FT. LAUDERDALE, FL - Feb. 15, 2005 - Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider of open architecture, realtime visual computing solutions for the Visual and Sensor Simulation Training (VSST) and Embedded Visual Computing (EVC) markets, announced Expedition, a wireless, immersive, self-contained, man-wearable, open-architecture COTS platform that enables training system providers and researchers to quickly and economically develop and deploy embedded training and mission rehearsal capabilities for dismounted and mounted infantry and first responder applications. The Expedition system is being demonstrated at the Association of the US Army (AUSA) Winter Conference in the SAIC Booth #801.
Expedition integrates the latest in binocular OLED helmet mounted display (HMD) technology from eMagin, with a correlated three degree-of-freedom head/leg/weapon motion tracker system, a M4A1 training weapon with Quantum3D patent-pending wireless weapon input controller, Quantum3D THERMITE Tactical Visual Computer and load-bearing vest with accessories to provide a compact, man-worn embedded training system complete with surround sound and voice command, weapon-mounted synthetic environment scene and motion control, and IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN for coordinated squad-level interaction. Together these components provide an ergonomic immersive realtime 3D environment that enables infantry and paramilitary personnel to interact with realistic synthetic environments and training scenarios. Other Expedition components include advanced lithium ion batteries and charger, IEEE 801.11 access point and modified M4A1 training weapon with standard Picatinny/NATO 1913 rail-mounted accessories. Expedition is compatible with Windows® XP, IEEE 802.11, Open GL® 1.3, DirectX® and most other training and simulation industry standards.

Quantum3D Expedition Embedded Training Development and Deployment Platform Running Quantum3D Lightspeed
|
Based on technology developed in partnership between CG2, Quantum3D, and the U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (RDECOM) to support the RDECOM Science & Technology Objective (STO) program focused on dismounted embedded training, mission rehearsal and planning, Expedition is now available as a development and deployment system compatible with popular gaming-based training software such as America's Army and Forterra, in addition to conventional synthetic environment image generation software including Quantum3D Lightspeed used in the RDECOM Distributed Advanced Graphics Generator and Embedded Rehearsal System (DAGGERS) Program.
"Quantum3D was one of the first companies to enter the embedded training market," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and president. "We have continued to stay at the forefront of the industry by providing ruggedized, low power and, most recently, man-wearable offerings. Expedition represents our most ambitious effort to date, providing infantry and police forces with a state-of-the-art training platform to prepare for a wide range of real world scenarios. We are excited to bring Expedition to market and assist the U.S. military's goal of providing personalized, in-the-field training and mission rehearsal capabilities."
