AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS - April 26, 2005- Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider of COTS, open-architecture, realtime visual computing solutions for the Visual and Sensor Simulation Training (VSST) and Embedded Visual Computing (EVC) markets announced today at ITEC that Acme Worldwide Enterprises has selected the Quantum3D Independence® Image Generator (IG) Solution for an upgrade of the U.S. Air Force KC-10 Boom Operator Trainer (BOT) program. The Independence 2500 is on display at the Quantum3D ITEC Stand No. D17.
Acme was awarded the Air Force contract to upgrade the two KC-10 Boom Operator Trainers located at Travis and McGuire Air Force Bases, restoring and improving the supportability and maintainability of air refueling training devices. Acme has purchased two Independence systems, along with Quantum3D GeoScapeSE databases, to improve device fidelity for increased training effectiveness. Quantum3D is also working with Acme to develop special visual system enhancements, such as realtime shadows for the boom and precision collision detection techniques to simulate the way the refueling boom interacts with the tanker and fighter aircrafts.
"In-air-refueling is a very difficult and dangerous operation, so providing high fidelity training for KC-10 Boom Operators is truly a mission critical activity," said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and president. "Acme's selection of Independence for this precision training device adds another key design-win to the growing list of advanced aviation simulation and training programs which includes the F-15E MTC, F/A-22 ACS, F-35 ACS, F-35 Sensor, and B-2 PES, to name just a few."
KC-10 Boom Operator Trainer Program Manager Andy Levandoski sees a strong connection between Acme's performance on other Boom Operator programs and the award of this contract. He stated, "Recent extensive upgrades which Acme made to the U.S. Air Force's two KC 135 Boom Operator Part Task Trainers have been very well received. These improved devices significantly enhance Boom Operator Training effectiveness and provided a proven track record for the USAF to entrust Acme with this critical modification to the KC -10 Boom Operator Trainers."
