SAN JOSE, CA – October
31, 2006 – Quantum3D®,
Inc., a leading provider of COTS, open architecture, realtime
visual computing solutions, announced today that it has delivered
to the 160th SOAR(A) and successfully integrated a set of high-fidelity
Facets® Realtime 3D Models
that are tailored for operation on CAE Medallion-S image generators
of the MH-47E and MH-60K SOA Combat Mission Simulator(s) (CMS)
block upgrade program and other SOAR(A) simulators at Ft Campbell,
KY. Quantum3D was contracted through the CMS prime contractor,
Rockwell Collins, to develop 27 realtime models representing multiple
MH-47 and MH-60 helicopter configurations, landable ships, and
ground vehicles for use in mission rehearsal and tactical training
applications. The enhanced models include special attribution
to support sensor simulation requirements of the CMS program.
The 160th SOAR(A) initially has deployed the
Facets models in four CMS trainers as well as in the MH-47G/MH-60
Common Avionics Architecture System Part Task Trainer (CAAS PTT)
and the AH/MH-6 Light Assault/Attack Reconfigurable (LASAR) simulators.
Additional deployments of these models and new models to be defined
by the 160th SOAR(A) over the next three years will include a
second LASAR simulator, the MH-60M CAAS SOA CMS, and the Enlisted
Aircrew Training and Rehearsal Device. Optimized for realtime
applications, these Facets models include multiple texture schemes,
multiple levels of detail, multiple damaged states and vehicle
markings, along with specific material encoding for sensor simulation
applications on the Medallion-S image generators – all of
which are key requirements for 160th SOAR(A) simulation and training
programs.
In addition to delivering Facets models, Quantum3D
has also been awarded a work order from the Program Executive
Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation (PEO STRI)
and the 160th SOAR(A) to provide a conversion utility that will
enable OpenFlight models to be published for use in U.S. Army
Special Operations Aviation Training and Rehearsal System (ASTARS-04)
Common Environment/Common Database (CE/CDB) format environments.
Under the work order, Quantum3D will deliver the tool and additional
CDB format models to the 160th SOAR(A) for use on their suite
of simulators.
Quantum3D’s experience with CDB was recently
highlighted in a paper presented at the Image 2006 Conference
entitled “Facets OpenFlight to CDB – A First Look
at CDB”, co-authored by John Oliver, Quantum3D’s Manager
of Synthetic Natural Environment Engineering, and Roy Wall, Electrical
Engineer PM Special Operations Forces Training Systems, PEO STRI.
“Creating cost-effective detailed, yet
optimized, realtime open architecture models for simulation and
training is a combination of art and science,” said Ross
Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and president. “Our Facets
models have a strong heritage as the industry leading COTS realtime
model solution for visual simulation, and we continue to invest
in Facets development as part of our Synthetic Environment Center
of Excellence in Orlando headed by John Oliver. All of us at Quantum3D
are pleased to be working with the 160th SOAR(A) on this important
effort that we believe could set the standard for network centric
training in the coming years.”
About Facets Realtime 3D Models
Quantum3D Facets Realtime 3D Models are Commercial-Off-the-Shelf
(COTS) realtime 3D models that are designed for ready integration
into multi-spectral visualization and simulation applications.
Delivered as COTS products in OpenFlight®
and binary runtime formats, Facets 3D realtime models are tuned
for 30 and 60 Hz applications and feature high-quality, multiple
resolution photo realistic textures with multiple paint schemes,
optional material encoded IR textures, multiple levels of detail
(LOD) and articulations where applicable. Facets models may also
be tailored to meet unique simulation requirements, as was successfully
completed for the 160th SOAR(A). Facets realtime 3D models, along
with the Quantum3D family of IG Solutions for the Visual and Sensor
Simulation and Training Market will be demonstrated at I/ITSEC
2006 in the Quantum3D Booths (1301 and 1401) and in select partner
booths. For more information on Facets Realtime 3D Models or other
