SAN JOSE, CA., –
November 28, 2006 – Quantum3D®,
Inc., a leading provider of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS), open-architecture,
realtime visual computing products and solutions, announced today
that it has entered into an agreement with the Naval Air Warfare
Center Training Systems Division (NAWC-TSD) to collaborate on
visual simulation and image generation systems and software tools
for military and commercial research, development, and training
simulation solutions.
The NAWC-TSD – Quantum3D Cooperative Research
and Development Agreement (CRADA) provides for Quantum3D to assist
NAWC-TSD in the evaluation and enhancement of the Navy’s
Aviation Simulation Master Plan Portable Source Initiative (NPSI)
Data Preparation Standard (DPS). Under the terms of the CRADA,
Quantum3D will provide software and services to evaluate the NPSI-DPS
and to publish NPSI-DPS synthetic environments optimized for deployment
on Quantum3D Independence®
IG Solutions and other vendor’s image generators. The two
organizations will exchange information and technology to capture
source data and add more capability to visuals and standard material
codes for sensor simulation and metadata.

“As we take our training visual solutions
to the next level, it is vital for us to identify standards and
data that can contribute to the rapid evolution of these systems
for the U.S. military,” said Pam Woodard, Director of Visual
Systems at NAVAIR TSD. “The use of open source, commercial-off-the-shelf
IG solutions provides the military with unique capabilities. It
is important that military and industry team to develop interfaces
and standards under which we can best work together and we believe
our efforts with companies like Quantum3D help forward these efforts.”
Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D president and co-founder, commented on
the need for standards. “Today,” he said, “our
COTS, open-architecture IGs are able to address the most advanced
visual and sensor simulation, training and mission rehearsal requirements
in the military. However, common database content, standards and
formats have in many ways impeded the progress of COTS IGs and
solutions. NAVAIR has done some watershed work in addressing this
need with NPSI and all of us at Quantum3D are pleased to be working
with NAVAIR to help refine the standards and publish databases
that benefit our military and the COTS vendor community at large.”
