Quantum3D®
Independence®
IDX 3000 IG Solution with Reduced Noise 35U Cabinet |
SAN JOSE, CA – November
29, 2006 – Quantum3D®,
Inc., a leading provider of COTS, open-architecture, realtime
visual computing solutions announced today that customer shipments
of Quantum3D Independence®
Image Generator (IG) solutions have now surpassed the 1,000 channel
mark. Independence IGs are currently deployed in the US, Europe
and Asia and are addressing the most advanced realtime visual
computing requirements across an extremely broad range of mission-critical
training, simulation and mission rehearsal programs.
Introduced in late 2002, Independence is the
first COTS IG Solution that employs a unique System Level Parallel
Rendering Architecture (SLPRA) that combines multiple synchronized
Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) to provide low-latency, scalable,
performance, image quality, fidelity and availability--all while
providing industry leading “technology insertion”
capabilities for low-cost upgrades and obsolescence management.
Independence’s architecture isolates rapidly evolving PC
components from enduring IG infrastructure, which facilitates
“technology insertion” that lets customers swap out
PC components with newer technology without affecting application
software and database compatibility. This capability enables Independence
customers to upgrade their systems and improve performance and
fidelity as new PC technology becomes available, while avoiding
“lifetime buys” and other obsolescence issues associated
with other IG solutions. Since its inception, Independence technology
insertion has accommodated four generations of CPU upgrades and
six generations of NVIDIA®
GPU upgrades that began with the NV20 GPU in the IDX 1000 and
now employs the G71 GPU in the currently shipping IDX 3000.

“We are grateful to our many customers
that have made IDX one of the most popular advanced IGs in the
market today by adopting the system for some of the most important
simulation, training and mission rehearsal programs in our industry,”
said Ross Q. Smith, Quantum3D co-founder and president. “1,000
channels shipped is a big milestone for any IG, and we attribute
the success of Independence to its fidelity, performance, and
low cost of ownership--as well as its ongoing improvements and
unique technology insertion capabilities--which we believe continues
to provide the best possible value to our customers.”
Worldwide Adoption for High Fidelity Applications
Independence IG Solutions are currently deployed on numerous fixed-wing,
fast jet, helicopter and weapon system training, simulation and
mission rehearsal programs including the Lockheed Martin F-35
Joint Strike Fighter Advanced Concepts Simulator and F/A-22 Raptor
Air Combat Simulator, U.S. Navy TH-57C Flight Instrument Trainer
(FIT) and P-3C Tactical Operations Readiness Trainer, the USAF
B-2 Pilot Evaluation Simulator, F-15E Distributed Mission Training
Centers, KC-10 Boom Operator Trainer (BOT) KC-135 Boom Operator
Part Task Trainer (BOPTT), and the Boeing Apache AH-64D and CH-47/V-22
Engineering Development Simulators. Independence IG Solutions
are also deployed at the U.S. Missile Defense Agency for Hardware-in-the-Loop
simulation applications; with the Republic of Korea F-15K DMTS;
at Ford Motor on the VIRTTEX driving simulator; and at the U.S.
DoT National Advanced Driving Simulator (NADS). Additional announcements
of U.S. and international follow-on orders and new program wins
for Independence are forthcoming.
Independence IDX 3000 Delivers New Levels
of Fidelity
Built on the same System Level Parallel Rendering Architecture
that provides the foundation for the Independence IG family, the
IDX 3000 includes technology refreshment of essential PC components
in the system's rendering subsystems as well as select upgrades
of IDX value-added IG infrastructure and software components.
IDX 3000 employs the latest NVIDIA®
Merchant PCI-Express GPU technology--which enables it to deliver
up to two times the pixel fill rate and four times the pixel and
vertex shader performance of prior generation IDX 2500 systems.
IDX 3000, similar to earlier IDX models, employs nVSync™,
Quantum3D’s patented (U.S. Patent No. 6,646,645) precision
synchronization technology that enables flexible genlock and output
video capabilities along with precision synchronization of up
to 64 channels-- with 1, 2, 4 or 8 graphics boards per channel
with independent “swap domains” for channel-specific
load-management. IDX 3000 also supports Quantum3D Clarity™
full-scene anti-aliasing (FSAA), which supports up to 128 sub-pixel
samples and, when coupled with IDX 3000’s support for up
to 12 megapixels resolution per channel, provides visual acuity
and target recognition levels that set the benchmark for fidelity
in the industry. With its scalability, IDX 3000 configurations
may be tailored to meet program budget, image quality, performance,
and fidelity requirements on a per-channel basis.
