QUANTUM3D'S OBSIDIAN2™ ACCELERATOR CHOSEN BY MIDWAY FOR NEXT GENERATION COIN-OP SYSTEMS
Quantum3D-Midway Partnership Strengthened by Technology Adoption for Arcade

IAAPA, Dallas, TX -November 18 1998 - Quantum3D®, the leader in visual computing solutions, today announced the inclusion of their Obsidian2™ graphics accelerator in the latest generation arcade machines from industry leading coin-op game Company, Midway Games Inc. (Chicago, Illinois) (NYSE: MWY). Among the first Midway arcade games to incorporate this technology is the state-of-the-art 3D action-adventure game, Gauntlet Legends™, from Midway subsidiary Atari Game Corporation. Gauntlet Legends, along with other Midway and Atari products that feature the Obsidian2, will be shown by Midway and Atari Games at IAAPA.

The Partnership Strengthens

The alliance between Quantum3D and Midway was first publicized in the consumer arena with Quantum3D's RavenTM 3D/2D graphics card, which comes bundled with three top Midway PC titles. By then Midway had already chosen Quantum3D,s Obsidian2 as the graphics accelerator for these newest arcade games. Midway and Atari Games have been long time supporters of the 3Dfx Interactive® Voodoo GraphicsTM technology and the inclusion of Quantum3Dâs highly optimized Voodoo2 TM-based Obsidian2 cards is the next step in this natural progression.

"Midway already has a great partnership with Quantum3D on the consumer side of our business and we're excited about showing coin-op products that feature the Quantum3D boards," said Ken Fedesna, Executive Vice President Coin-Op Video, Midway Games. "Quantum3D is known for developing the highest performance Voodoo2-based 3D graphics accelerators in the industry. Since our games utilize every ounce of performance available, their products will really help our teams deliver hit titles."

Obsidian2-- Optimized for Cutting-Edge Coin-op Games

Next-generation coin-op games use more texture and polygons than ever before and the Obsidian2 has been optimized to handle such demands. The Obsidian2 features 8 MB of high-speed texture memory to deliver unsurpassed image quality. To meet the stringent realtime performance requirements of next generation coin-op games, the Obsidian2 features a unique design that fully exploits the power of Voodoo2 technology. With a 192-bit memory graphics architecture that provides 2.4 GB/sec of dedicated graphics bandwidth, the Obsidian2 delivers 90 megapixels-per-second trilinear fill rate and up to 3 million textured triangles-per-second for superior frame rates. Obsidian2 delivers the most advanced 3D features, the highest frame rate performance and superior image quality compared to any other graphics accelerator in the entertainment industry.

"It's very satisfying to work with partners that value good engineering and Midway certainly creates content that benefits from all the performance and features that our products offer " said Ross Q. Smith, Founder and Vice President of Business Development at Quantum3D. "We're pleased to further the partnership that we've established with Midway by delivering Obsidian2 products for their next generation coin-op systems. When you see adults and kids lined up to play Gauntlet Legends, you'll know why our partnership is destined to change the game industry."

Gauntlet Legends As First Game

Gauntlet Legends, leveraging Midway's custom 3D coin-op system, is the first use of the Quantum3D Obisdian2 video card in Midway cabinets. The basic play of Gauntlet Legends is similar to the hit original, Gauntlet, with up to four simultaneous players exploring fantastic worlds, facing hordes of monsters, searching for treasure, avoiding traps and using magic. In addition, players now have new puzzles to solve, bosses to contend with, experience levels to boost, new power-ups to discover and a completely new storyline to enjoy. Providing stunning 3D environments and characters, the Obsidian2 meets the demanding graphics of this fantasy game.
