San Jose, CA, November
9, 1999 - Quantum3D®
Inc., the leader in PC-based interactive 3D visual
computing systems, announced today that CORYS T.E.S.S.,
a leading supplier in visual simulation and training
systems, has adopted Quantum3D's Heavy Metal
GX+ with Mercury full-scene, sub-pixel anti-aliasing
realtime 3D graphics subsystem for use in developing
an advanced passenger train driving simulator. CORYS
T.E.S.S. (Training and Engineering Support Systems)
won the internationally tendered contract to design
and manufacture a train driving simulator for the
new ALSTOM/Fiat high-speed tilting train for Virgin
Trains in Britain. CORYS T.E.S.S. will also be using
Quantum3D products for train driving simulators
under development for deployment in Australia and
Singapore.
For the UK project, Virgin Trains
awarded ALSTOM Transport Ltd. with the contract
to supply 53 new high-speed tilting trains for the
UK's West Coast Main Line. The contract also required
a high fidelity train driving simulator. This simulator,
to be delivered by Corys T.E.S.S. in July 2000,
will be a stationary full-size replica of the driver's
cab with an immersive audio and visual environment,
using Quantum3D's Heavy Metal GX+ with Mercury under
Microsoft® Windows NT®. The simulator will
facilitate driver conversion from existing rolling
stock to new trains and additionally play a role
in ensuring the successful commissioning of the
new trains in August 2001 by enabling driver assessment
to be an integral part of development.
Staying at the leading edge of
new technology, and therefore being able to offer
their clients PC-based solutions to reduce both
the purchase and life cycle costs of their systems,
is a key factor in CORYS T.E.S.S.' success in supplying
world-class train driving simulators.
"Quantum3D is the leading
supplier in PC-based image generation offering a
full range of products, and is the only PC-based
visual computer supplier that has enabled us to
meet the high computer generated imagery performance
requirements of train driving simulators in terms
of frame rate and full-scene anti-aliasing,"
said Ralf Gathmann, Transport Simulation Business
Unit Manager, CORYS T.E.S.S. "The Quantum3D
open architecture solution means CORYS T.E.S.S.
application software needs no specific modifications
to run on Quantum3D products. Furthermore, we are
confident that Quantum3D can continually offer new
technology, as well as innovative upgrades."
"CORYS T.E.S.S. develops
world-class train driving simulators for clients
around the globe," said John
Knowles, Managing Director of Quantum3D, Ltd.
(U.K.) "This latest selection of Quantum3D
visual computing systems by a leading visual simulation
supplier for integration into their simulators offers
further confirmation of Quantum3D's ability to meet
requirements for visual simulation and training
applications of all kinds."
In taking advantage of Quantum3D's
open architecture systems, CORYS T.E.S.S. uses Windows
NT as the operating system, Quantum3D's SimGL
as the graphics driver, and their own CORAIL software
for modeling, application development, and scene
management.
