Navy's Manned Flight Simulation Laboratory Extends Adoption of Quantum3D's Visual Computing Systems
Quantum3D's PC-based Systems with Full-scene, Sub-pixel Anti-aliasing in F18 Simulator

San Jose, CA, February 28, 2000 -- Quantum3D®, the first company to deliver PC-based visual computing systems with full-scene, sub-pixel hardware anti-aliasing for visual simulation and training, has delivered eight Heavy Metal™ Mercury™ systems to the U.S. Navy at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland. Quantum3D's open architecture systems are in use in the F18 simulator at the Air Combat Environment Test and Evaluation Facility's Manned Flight Simulation (MFS) Laboratory, along with Quantum3D's scene management software, OpenGVS™.

"Quantum3D systems provide the Navy's MFS program with maximum PC-IG performance at an exceptional value," said Rick Bess, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Quantum3D. "This is a full flight and avionics system facility, supporting all categories of military aircraft, with a tightly coupled computer network of aircraft cockpits and crew stations. We are pleased to support this major program, and Pax River continues to add to its initial Quantum3D Mercury installations."

In 1998, Quantum3D became the first company to deliver full-scene, sub-pixel hardware anti-aliasing on an open architecture PC-based image generator (PC-IG) specifically designed to meet the needs of visual simulation and training. Until that point, developers had to rely on traditional, proprietary image generators costing as much as $250,000 for applications requiring full-scene anti-aliasing for demanding simulations.

Quantum3D's Mercury system - and its next generation AAlchemy™ system - start at less than $10,000 per channel. Quantum3D PC-IGs are open architecture, scalable, upgradeable systems compatible with a broad range of industry-leading software, including scene managers, 3D graphics APIs, realtime file formats, and PC operating systems. The AAlchemy family represents another first in the market for Quantum3D, as watershed scalable technology with models enabling gigapixel-per-second performance.
