Independence® IDX 4000 ER
Advanced, COTS, Open-Architecture, Scalable, IG Solutions for Visual and Sensor Simulation Applications
Note: Independence 4000 ER contains technology that is subject to U.S. Export Control and which requires authorization by the U.S. Government for export to foreign end users.

First introduced in 2001 and widely adopted and deployed by leading military and civilian training organizations around the world including the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. DoT, Lockheed Martin, Boeing Corporation, L-3 Communications, Rockwell Collins, Ford Motor, QuantaDyne, CymSTAR, Camber, Acme Worldwide, Advanced Rotorcraft Technology and many others, the Quantum3D® Independence® Family of COTS, Open-Architecture, Advanced IG Solutions is designed to meet the demands of today’s most advanced synthetic environment sensor and visual simulation, training, and mission rehearsal applications.

IDX 4000 ER
The newest member of the Independence Family, the IDX 4000 ER, employs Independence’s unique technology insertion capabilities to combine the latest in extended life-cycle advanced PC technologies with enhanced shader-based realtime scene management and system software, patented precision synchronization technology, channel composition and sensor post processing technology, and optional correlated synthetic environment content—all integrated into a turnkey IG solution. The IDX 4000 ER represents the 6th major software and synthetic environment compatible “technology insertion” within the Independence Family since the introduction of the IDX 1000 in 2001.

IDX 4000 ER Technology Insertion

provides significant improvements in performance, fidelity, features and overall value—without affecting customer’s investments in software, databases or certifications. Independence’s pace of innovation, which effectively doubles IDX performance every 18 months-- keeping pace with Moore’s Law, is unrivalled in the visual simulation industry and illustrates Quantum3D’s commitment to forwarding the state of the art in COTS IGs and proving once again that Independence sets the standard for COTS IG Solutions for demanding synthetic environment simulation applications that require support for multi-channel Out-the-Window (OTW), simulated IR, NVG, radar and stimulated NVG capabilities.
The IDX 4000 ER features an enhanced “1U” realtime IG Rendering subsystem (IGR5) that is equipped with the latest in extended-life-cycle Intel® Xeon® Multi-Core CPUs, NVIDIA® Quadro® FX GPUs and Quantum3Ds
patented (U.S. Patent No. 6,646,645), COTS NVSYNC™precision synchronization module, the supports up to 256 synchronized IGR5s per IG, configured in up to eight (8) independent sync domains.

A key component of Independence’s System Level Parallel Rendering Architecture (SLPRA™), the IDX 4000 ER with NVSYNC supports with configurable load management for balanced performance and scalable performance using Quantum3D’s Channel Composition technology supports 1, 2, 4 or 8 IGRs per Channel—all working in parallel to deliver enhanced performance (up to 8-Way SLI) and/or Clarity™ full-scene antialiasing (up to 64 SPS) without the rendering artifacts or system level restrictions associated with with merchant “SLI” solutions.
With the enhancements afforded by its IGR5 technology insertion, the IDX 4000 ER can deliver up to 20 Gigapixels per Second fill rate performance and well over 100 Million Meshed Triangles per Second—which is approximately twice the performance of the previous generation of Independence, the IDX 3000 ER. This level of scalability enables integrators to tailor their IDX 4000 ER configurations to match the precise performance, fidelity and budgetary needs of their program, on a per channel basis.

With the enhanced performance and precision synchronization offered by the IGR5, the IDX 4000 ER provides unparalleled levels of visual computing density and performance-- with up to five (5) times less vertical rack space per channel than competitive IGs, which is ideal for 20/20 Visual Acuity applications that require a large number of synchronized 60 Hz QXGA Resolution OTW channels within a limited number of racks.

The IDX 4000 ER also includes a new, consolidated implementation of the Independence Centralized Storage Architecture (CSA2) that provides centralized, convenient removable, RAID subsystems that houses the IG system software and synthetic environments for OTW, Mission Function, and Sensor (including Narrow Field of View) Simulation Channels. Now standard on IDX 4000 ER, CSA2 is an integral component of the system’s IG Controller (IGC4), which reduces system acquisition price and LRU count while further improving the IG’s industry leading MTBF and simplifying system administration and operation in secure or classified environments.

The IDX 4000 ER also reflects substantial improvements to its Mantis® Shader-Based Realtime Scene Management Software including new, advanced environmental effects and FAA Level D features required for a wide range of aviation simulation and training applications. The IDX 4000 ER also features enhanced versions of Celerity™ and Detailer™ Publishing and Tuning Utilities, along with integrated display capability within the IGC4 that enables system integrators to visually tune effects and parameters on the IG itself. One of the most important areas of improvement within the IDX 4000 ER is Quantum3D Enhanced Sensor Simulation Technology (QUEST™) that provides High-Dynamic-Range (16-bit end-to-end), Physics-Based Sensor Simulation on high-resolution, geospecific, synthetic environments with material classified sensor simulation textures as well as enhanced support for interlaced simulated sensor channel configurations. The IDX 4000 ER also features an enhanced version of the Quantum3D IG Management (IGM™) System Administration Software Suite, for simplified administration and operation, including validated user IDs.
With its industry leading performance and comprehensive features including low-cost GeoScapeSE™ COTS Geospecific Synthetic Environments and Facets® COTS Realtime 3D Models, the IDX 4000 ER is ideally suited for a wide range of advanced realtime, mission critical military and civilian sensor-related synthetic environment simulation, training, and mission rehearsal applications:

  • Fixed- and Rotary-Wing Aviation
    Simulation and Training
  • Weapons Systems and Gunnery Training
  • Hardware-in-the-Loop Sensor Simulation
  • Automotive R&D Simulation and Driver
    Training

  • Military Ground Vehicle Training
  • Fixed-Base and Forward Air Traffic
    Control Simulation & Training
  • Ship’s Bridge Simulation and Training
