COTS Database for Use with
Quantum3D IG Solutions

The GeoScapeSE™ CONUS OTW Database is a Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS), high-fidelity, geospecific database optimized for conterminous U.S. (lower 48 states) Out-the-Window (OTW) fixed-wing and rotorcraft training and mission rehearsal applications that employ Quantum3D Independence® IG Solutions.

GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW

Database designed for training and mission rehearsal applications that require extensive gaming areas and highly detailed inset areas, the database foundation is 10m geospecific imagery of the entire conterminous U.S. with multiple, high-resolution AOIs that support precision low-level training tasks.

Current Included AOIs:

  • Twelve (12) high resolution airfields developed to FAA Level D Standards
  • Eighteen (18) high resolution generic airfields
  • Over 4000 DAFIF generic airfields
  • Correlated 3DOF motion trackers
  • Sixteen (16) geocells of 5m and 1m resolution geospecific imagery of desert Test Ranges

The GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW terrain is built from USGS Level 1 DTED; standard output projection is WGS-84 Geocentric; output format is Mantis Native Paging. Other formats, projections, source options, and material classified texture sets for sensor simulation applications are also available—see Quantum3D for details.

Covering the entire conterminous United States (CONUS), an area of 1,047 geocells, the GeoScapeSE CONUS terrain database foundation is based on Harris-Image Links True Terrain 10m geospecific high-fidelity imagery that has been developed and processed specifically for visual simulation applications.

To support low-level flight and mission-specific training, the GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW database includes numerous Areas of Interest (AOIs) built from 5m, 1m and higher resolution geospecific imagery with geospecifc and geotypical models and cultural features that are optimized for training purposes. Included among the AOIs are select training/test ranges in the Southwestern USA desert as well as numerous military and civilian airfields—built to FAA Level D standards with 5m imagery aprons for smooth transitions between resolutions that are ideal for takeoff and landing training, as well as cross country flight and navigation training and a variety of specific training missions to accommodate low-level precision strike and air-to-air training scenarios. All geospecific imagery is orthorectified, color balanced, and co-registered for earth truth fidelity.

Designed for Open Architecture Technology Insertion
Similar to Quantum3D IG Solutions, GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW has been designed to accommodate technology insertion— both to improve the quality of the database by keeping it current, and to support the addition of new AOIs to support additional training areas and tasks. With GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW, customers employing OpenFlight™ compatible database generation methodologies may insert their own AOIs without regenerating the entire 1,047 geocell database. Alternately, with the Quantum3D GeoScapeSE CONUS Maintenance Program, customers can receive updated and/or new AOIs on a quarterly basis as they are published by Quantum3D’s Synthetic Environment team—without additional cost and without the hassle of regenerating the database themselves. With updated AOIs, customers simply replace the appropriate files in the GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW database directory. For new AOIs, customers simply republish the database using Quantum3D’s Celerity™ runtime publisher/formatter (which comes with Quantum3D IG Solutions) and the new AOIs are integrated seamlessly into their database directory and are ready for training.

License and Sensor Simulation Options
GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW is available as a binary formatted, runtime database optimized for Quantum3D Independence IG Solutions and is normally licensed on a per IG basis. Program, Site, and Organization binary runtime licenses, as well as source imagery license options are also available—contact Quantum3D for details. Material classified textures for GeoScapeSE CONUS OTW to enable correlated IR, NVG or EO/IR simulation, as well as radar versions for Camber Radar Toolkit are also available - contact Quantum3D for details.
