COTS Database for Use with
Quantum3D IG Solutions

The GeoScapeSE™ Europe OTW Database is a Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS), high-fidelity, geospecific database optimized for Out-the-Window (OTW) fixed-wing & rotorcraft training and mission rehearsal applications using Quantum3D Independence® IG Solutions.


GeoScapeSE Europe OTW Database

Designed for commercial and military aviation simulation and training applications, the database foundation is 15m geospecific imagery of all of Europe to the Russian border.

Current Included AOIs:

  • Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport (INN/LOWI) in Innsbruck, Austria
  • 5 meter geospecific imagery covering 3500 sqkm encircling the Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport
  • 1 meter geospecific imagery covering 149 sqkm encompassing Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport
  • 2D/3D models of the airport environment designed to meet JAA/FAA Level D certification

The GeoScapeSE Europe OTW terrain is built from SRTM Level I DTED; standard output projection is WGS-84 Geocentric; output format is binary optimized for operation on Quantum3D IGs. Other formats, projections, source options, and material classified texture sets for sensor simulation applications are also available - see Quantum3D for details.

Covering continental Europe to the Russian border and including the Azores and most Mediterranean Islands, an area of 1,358 geocells, the GeoScapeSE Europe terrain database foundation is based on Harris-ImageLinks Global Data Set 15m geospecific imagery, the most realistic global imagery product available in the visual simulation market for broad area coverage visual simulation applications.

GeoScapeSE Europe leverages the GeoScapeSE library’s unique, open architecture approach to meeting customer needs by providing a geospecific, cost effective imagery backdrop that may then be tailored by Quantum3D customers by adding their own legacy or newly-developed detailed Areas of Interest (AOIs) including civilian and military airfields and training areas using a simple, incremental database update procedure. GeoScapeSE Europe customers can, for the first time ever, realize the benefits of having a high-performance, high-fidelity, low-cost Europe-wide database to which they can add program-specific value, while retaining ownership and control.

Designed for Open Architecture Technology Insertion
Similar to Quantum3D IG Solutions, GeoScapeSE Europe OTW has been designed to accommodate technology insertion— both to improve the quality of the database by keeping it current, and to support the addition of new AOIs to support additional training areas and tasks. With GeoScapeSE Europe OTW, customers employing OpenFlight™ compatible database generation methodologies may insert their own AOIs without regenerating the entire 1,358 geocell database. Alternately, with the Quantum3D GeoScapeSE Europe Maintenance Program, customers can receive updated and/or new AOIs on a quarterly basis as they are published by Quantum3D’s Synthetic Environment team—without additional cost and without the hassle of regenerating the database themselves. With updated AOIs, customers simply replace the appropriate files in the GeoScapeSE Europe OTW database directory. For new AOIs, customers simply republish the database using Quantum3D’s Celerity™ runtime publisher/formatter (which comes with Quantum3D IG Solutions) and the new AOIs are integrated seamlessly into their database directory and are ready for training.

License and Sensor Simulation Options
GeoScapeSE Europe OTW is available as a binary formatted, runtime database optimized for Quantum3D Independence IG Solutions and is typically licensed on a per IG basis. Program, Site, and Organization licenses for source data & binary runtime databases are also avialble — contact Quantum3D for details.
