Facets Realtime 3D Models
are unique in the off-the-shelf modeling marketplace and provide
the ultimate in quality, flexibility and affordability. Facets
models are delivered with multiple levels of detail (LOD) and
highly realistic tri-resolution textures. Where applicable, Facets
models come equipped with multiple paint schemes, a synthetic
infrared (IR) sensor scheme, damaged/destroyed states, articulated
parts, and animations.
The
Facets Collection includes Aircraft, Automobiles, Armored Vehicles,
Ships and Missiles to name a few. New models are also being added
continuously. Facets realtime 3D models are designed around for
basic principles:
| Accuracy |
Correct
proportions that most closely reflect reality |
| Features |
Where applicable, models include a
combination of LODs, Articulations, Switches and Animations |
| Consistency |
Standard internal organization is
implemented, making it easy to understand the hierarchy from
one model to another |
| Efficiency |
Facets are "Sim-Friendy"
and designed for optimal frame rate on Quantum3D Image Generators |
To attain the highest level of realism,
Facets Realtime 3D Models are first proportioned using line drawings,
real-world physical dimensions, photographs and thru years of
modeling expertise. All textures are created using the correct
colors, patterns and vehicle markings as their real-world counterparts.
By maintaining model integrity, all markings and proportions are
still identifiable at lower levels of detail (LODs.) Facets models
are so accurate, they've been accepted by NATO for target identification
training.

Facets Realtime 3D Models are designed with multiple controllable
features, such as multiple color schemes, destroyed state switches,
articulation and animation.
| Multiple
Color Schemes |
Include typical paint
schemes and markings, simulated IR sensor and white-hot, and
multiple colors for ground (camouflage, olive drab, desert,
and snow.) |
| Destroyed State
Switch |
Switch between normal to destroyed
states for higher realism. Ground models only. |
| Articulations |
Typically include two articulations
per model, such as turrets, swing wings, shovel blades, missile
launchers, guns, cranes, and radars. |
| Animations |
Increase the realism by providing
animated movement, such as helicopter rotors, propellers,
and afterburners |

Facets Realtime 3D Models also include highly
optimized, automated features that increase fidelity without impacting
visual acuity. Through LOD Scene Load Management, polygon and
texture resolution is gradually reduced as the model gets further
away from the eye point. Visually it is undetectable, but overall
scene polygon counts are kept low. A typical LOD spread would
include 8, 100, 250, 500, 1000, and 2000 triangles. Likewise for
textures, texture is reduced from full (1024 x 1024 pixels), to
half (512 x 512 pixels) to finally quarter resolution (256 x 256
pixels).

All Facets Realtime 3D Models are designed
to be plug-and-play. Every Facets Library includes documented
standards for hierarchy layout, units, standard orientation, naming
conventions (filenames, internal node names), shading and lighting,
and DIS commenting (on select models). Through advancements in
photo-realistic texture painting, the Facets Realtime 3D Model
Library maintains the same "feel" and quality throughout.
Facets Realtime 3D Models are optimized
for rendering speed and visual quality. Modeled with the perfect
balance between geometry and texture, Facets minimizes render
state changes at runtime and optimize texture layouts. By sticking
to the OpenFlight standard, Facets 3D Model hierarchies are clean
and efficient allowing them to be integrated into existing simulations.
Integrating Facets into an older simulation is one of the easiest
ways to increase visual acuity and improved training feedback.
